Grief & Loss

Grief is a natural response to loss that can affect mental, emotional, social and physical well-being. Grief can come in the wake of any loss. Common sources of grief include:

  • Death of a loved one

  • Miscarriage

  • Confronting serious illness in a loved one

  • Divorce or any relationship loss

  • Death of a pet

  • Moving

  • Change in health

  • Loss of a dream or unmet expectations

  • Losing a job

  • Loss of security or the feeling of safety, especially after a traumatic event

  • Change in financial status

  • Retirement

Social support, understanding and care are important during any season of life, but especially during times of grief. While there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there are effective and healthy coping skills you can utilize to process loss in a healthy way. Counseling is an effective way to receive unconditional support and walk through grief in an adaptive way. If loss is not addressed or not grieved properly, it can lead to more unpleasant and complicated conditions in the future.
